January '10 album

Just put up the rest of the January '10 album on Facebook as well. Not much in there. We didn't take a lot of pictures in January. It was mostly just baby prep going on. We also had people here a lot to help me in my final weeks of pregnancy. Here's the album. Highlights below:


I had dinner out with both my sisters -- just us girls!  What a great treat that was.  :)



Regin began a new obsession with letters, ESPECIALLY the letter H.  He makes them, he points them out.  All. The. Time!



Baby prep this time includes our new 100% pure wool, undyed carpet with natural rubber padding underneath; a new, king-size, organic mattress; and a custom-built bed frame (by my awesome dad) to hold the new mattress.  Awesome stuff!

Pregnancy Album up!

I sadly lost my pregnancy album from my first pregnancy.  Kodakgallery.com took it down because apparently I misunderstood their instructions for keeping my account up to date.  I plan to at some point try and reconstruct it as best I can and put down things I remember.  But a lot of those memories are lost.  Such is the digital world.  Sigh.  However, I have a new pregnancy album up on Facebook for this pregnancy.  Yes, I know I should back it up somehow, and no I haven't done that yet.  But if you want to take a look, it's there.  And it's almost finished!  Baby should be arriving REALLY soon!


Pregnancy Album

One of those parenting moments...

This weekend when we were shopping at Target, Regin picked up a large ceramic ball ornament, thinking it was a bouncy ball. I ran over to him saying, “noooooo that’s nooooot a toooooy!!!!” but I was too late.  By the time I’d reached him, he’d already held it high over his head and thrown it on the ground as hard as he could.

SMASH!!!

I gasped! I started telling him, “you see? Mamma said it wasn’t a toy…” but the poor guy was completely shocked and embarassed. He ran around the corner and hid. I stayed and apologized profusely to the Target workers, while he watched from a distance with his Papi, and saw as they cleaned it up and assured me repeatedly that it was no big deal and I didn’t have to pay for it. (thank goodness it was a cheap, Target item!). Poor guy. It took a long time to recover; he was pretty mortified.

I can’t really blame him. It did look like a fun ball!

Anniversary photobooth

Took a bunch of shots of us on our anniversary (while we were just sitting at home on the couch.)  Made them into a photo-booth-style new masthead for our blog (for those of you who use a RSS reader instead of going to the actual blog).

It's funny how our anniversaries have progressed.  On the first anniversary, it was very important to do something special because we hadn't had a honeymoon, and we were expecting our first baby.  So we went on a weekend 'babymoon/honeyversary' to Mexico!  Whew!  On our second anniversary, we went to a nice dinner in Denver at a swanky little restaurant.  On our third, we were in Penang, and procrastinated in figuring out were to go and what to do, so we kind of just winged the night and ended up at a restaurant down the street from our place, followed by a fish spa treatment around the corner.

And that brings us to this year!  We did... NOTHING!  We stayed home, and spent a very ordinary evening on the couch watching shows Hulu.com.  Ordinary except for the photobooth session.  We don't normally do those!

I guess the honeymoon is over!  Ha!

Storybook Farm, Take 2

We went back to storybook farm with our friend Abby and her son Palmer (who Regin calls "Fahmer").
This time Regin was frozen with shyness.  He wanted nothing to do with the animals or storytime and he wanted only to cling to me.





But when the other people were busy with storytime, he saw some opportunity for alone play with the cool (fake) chicken coop.


Plop the eggs in at the top and they plop out the bottom.

Palmer saw and wanted to join in the fun.  By the way, how beautiful is he?






Then we got back on the tractors.

Storybook Farm, Take 1

We went to "Storybook Farm" at the Children's Museum earlier this month.  Teddi, her daughter Lyric, sister Nicole, and nephew Frankie all joined us later, but by then I was kind of done taking pictures, so unfortunately I have no shots of the other kids.



Regin LOVED hanging out with the animals.  Not the chickens, he can see those anytime in Walsenburg.

And not the bunnies, ducks, or pony.


No, what he loved, loved, loved, were the goats!

Oh my oh my!  He loved the goats!  Followed them around everywhere, petting them along the way.


Makes me want to get a little dwarf dairy goat.  How fun would that be?  And free goat milk, fertilizer, and lawn mower to boot!  Stupid neighborhood would never allow it though.  Sigh.

They had a storytime where they told his FAVORITE story:  The Three Billy Goats Gruff (is that why he loved the goats so much?)


We also got to sit on a tractor.

August 09 - Part 3, Pets, Localpalooza, Children's Museum

And the finale!  (Finally the finale?)

Regin and Smilla are best buds.  Well, siblings is probably more accurate.  They don't want to be apart, but they drive each other nuts.  All I hear all day long is, "SMILLA THAT'S NOT YOURS!  SMILLA LEAVE IT! LEAVE IT! LEAVE IT! NOOOOO!  THAT'S NOT YOOOUUURRRSSS!" Regin SCREAMS this in the backyard, for all the neighbors to hear.  And then we have to run outside whenever that yelling turns into tears.  Usually the tears are about some ball that Smilla ran off with.  Occassionally it's because big, beastly Smilla has no idea of her size and strength and she frequently knocks Regin down.  Sometimes there are scratches and such.  Nothing too serious.  He's reaping what he's sowing though.  You rough-house with a giant dog and she is bound to eventually get tired of it and gnaw back a little.  Man he is rough with Smilla!  She tolerates SO much abuse from him!

But thankfully, they do LOVE to be together and play.  And usually when it's too much, at least when they're playing indoors, Regin tells me by saying, "I think Smilla want to go outside, Mamma!" When they're outside, we generally get tired of all the screaming before they truly tire of each other, so we separate them.  ("Am I going to have to separate you two?" -- Yep, siblings.)

We saw Jake's band, Almost Legends, play at Localpalooza.  They had the main stage!





Apparently Grant gave George some air guitar lessons.

Regin learned to handle our snake, Piper.


He loved it and laughed about how she tickles him!

We visited the Children's Museum.  It was chaotic, totally overstimulating for me, but fun.  Still, we won't likely be back much due to cost.

He's ultra proud of it even though he had ZERO interest in sitting down to make it.  I think we coaxed him into about two or three squirts of the paint bottles.

August 09 - Part 2, The Butterfly Pavillion

We've been trying to get out of the house more and find some things to go see that would interest Regin and hopefully feed his mind a bit.  So we finally took him to the Butterfly Pavillion, which he really seemed to enjoy, but we probably won't be back much, because it isn't terribly cheap, especially when you have no income.

There were lots of bugs to see.  He liked the spiders.

He especially liked the centipedes and millipedes. 

We 'met' Rosie, the tarantula they let you hold there.  But you have to be three or older to hold her.  It was fine though, because Regin was so terrified of the woman holding Rosie, he never would have gotten close enough to hold the spider anyway.  He's so painfully shy.  :)
