We're totally consumed with planning a tentative trip to Thailand. We have books and websites, and we keep thinking, "Let's just get the train tickets and leave this weekend," but then we don't. We're planning to go by train because I love trains (hate planes), the journey is a sight-seeing experience in and of itself, we can let Regin walk around and play in our compartment so the journey will be better for him, and because tickets from here to Bangkok are around $30USD!!!!! (Note: We've since found out that we don't get a compartment, that it's just seats open to the rest of the train car that fold over to become beds. So now we're thinking, 20+ hours trying to keep a toddler in his seat and out of the aisle? Hmmm....)
George has Wednesday and Thursday off for Hari Raya. Then he works from home Friday so we get to have him home for almost a whole week! Wish we'd planned better and made use of this time for a trip. That's the other motto of our stay here. The first is "There's something going on around here that we don't know about," and the second is "Wish we'd planned better and made time for a trip."
Wednesday is our anniversary. What a treat to have George home and off work on this day! We go check out the view from Queensbay Mall.
Papi is showing Regin the impossibly long Penang Bridge, and pointing out some boats ("boot") in the distance.
Side view of my hairdo. I had no idea this is what it looked like!
And here you can see that it's actually difficult to keep it looking chic all the time. More often than not I think it looks like a mess just like my old hair.
So, after that, Regin and George have a little play in the grass on the big roundabout.
That last image makes me laugh a little because George's body makes the line in the "Q" of the Queensbay sign.
Then we go shopping. I need some shoes for tonight.
The mall is decorated for Hari Raya.
We head home and I send George out for some KFC for Regin. He forgot about dinner out tonight and brings home dinner for all of us. He's unpacked dinner and digging in before I remind him it's our anniversary and we're getting dressed up to go out! It's all right. I have to eat a few times in the evening anyway, KFC can be dinner number one.
Fancy!
We have no plans for our evening. We drive around in circles before we decide on a restaurant within walking distance of our apartment. Pickins are slim. Most places are closed for the holiday and we don't really know where to go for the really nice places. Dinner is nice though, and they have something I can eat. This fish is stuffed with these amazing chilis and spices and it's not as spicy as that sounds.
George, sitting in the car and waiting for me to be done taking pictures.
After dinner we can't find anywhere fun to go, and I suggest we go to that late night spa by our apartment. We go for a fish spa treatment! This is George's first spa experience! The fish are freaky. There is a wild commotion and they attack your feet the second you put your feet in. It tickles, but mostly it feels like very strong pins and needles. It gets too much for me at times, so I have to pull out my feet and rest several times before I finally get used to it. One suggestion for those thinking of trying this: never go in with scabs. I had a large scab on my ankle that the fish have "cleaned" off for me. Now it's just a painful, open wound! Man!
True love is sharing a fish spa foot bath.
George posting photos of our feet on Facebook.
Then we go for some reflexology "massage" on our feet. George is trying to relax and enjoy it, but he tells me later that it pretty much just hurt and it was too intense.
"Owwwww! This is GREEEEEAAAATTT!"
Now it's after midnight and it's time to go home. Thanks for a nice evening, Babe. Happy Anniversary! Sorry I didn't plan anything though it was my turn.
