Week 30
WEEKEND, October 3rd - 5th
George is working from home today, but most of his coworkers have taken the day off, so there is little going on.
Shanti, our maid, ruined my skirt while ironing Friday. It's synthetic, so it got a little too hot and it now has a big hole melted into it. Shanti feels responsible and I'm not inclined to disagree. But she is going on and on about how sorry she is, so I tell her not to worry too much about it because it's a cheap skirt. But that seems to make her think she's off the hook. I was thinking she should still do something about it, but my mother doesn't think she should have to do anything about it. What do you guys think? And this is not making me any happier after she gave me no notice that she would not be showing up to work Wednesday, because it was a public holiday, but that she still expected to be paid. We're a little iffy about that too, I mean, it's not like she's even close to full time. By American standards, she shouldn't expect paid time off if she's not full time, right? Ugh. And then there's a broken food processor that I'm pretty sure she broke while cleaning (and never said anything about) and there is the shoddy cleaning. And we apparently pay her 50% more than going rate. Sometimes I'm so done with the whole maid thing. If I didn't think it was vital to my mental stability while here, I think we'd be going maid-free. But I'm not so sure I'll miss having a maid when we move back.
