Some old photos to share

My parents on their wedding day, June 13th, 1964

So I've been scanning old family photos and negatives.  I was too afraid to bring the older Hurley collection of negatives with us to Penang, but George was bold about his family's negatives, so they're with us.  For this reason, the majority of what I'll be scanning till we come back to the States, at least of the really old stuff, will be from the David family.

I'm still looking for the best way to share this with you guys.  Any photo I'm scanning that has family in it, I'm putting on Geni, so if you're family and have a Geni account, you can see them there.  But what about the rest of you?  Also, Geni doesn't let you put up hi-res photos and I'd really love it if all family members could pool together and share all of our old photos (hi resolution) for everyone to download if they wish.  So I'm trying out Flickr for that purpose.  I'm not excited about it because it doesn't have the same awesome people-tagging that Geni has, but I am creating groups for other family members to join and post their photos too.  One cool thing about Flickr is you can subscribe to the RSS feed, the same way you are subscribing to this blog (and I hope you are by now!) so those of you who are interested in these photos can be notified by your RSS reader (e.g. Google Reader) whenever there are new photos up.  Another downside thought for Flickr is that you have to keep the uploads below 100mb a month per account, which is pretty low for archiving like this.  But I don't mind paying the fee for an upgrade if this works out.

So, to help me test these different services, please FAMILY MEMBERS (are you listening?), please PLEASE join Flickr and upload photos to the relevant group.  I have groups for the Hurley Family, the Jacobsen Family, the David Family, and the Castro Family.  Each has it's own RSS feed, but if you are only interested in the photos I'm putting up, you can subscribe to my photostream.  I also have "sets" within that photostream (they're like photo albums that I am adding to as I go) and I believe each of those has an RSS feed.  Am I confusing you all yet?

Here is a small sample of the photos I have added so far:
Pierre David (George's brother) walking some early steps.

George, Pierre, and beautiful Gloria David (in her hot red shirt!) at an amusement park in Canada(?)

Caroline, this one is for you!  I've been thinking about putting it on Facebook.  Ha!  That's me (yellow) and Caroline (green) with our friends Amy and Jane in 1990.

My sister Katrin, and her hubby Bret, Faroe Islands, 1990

A bunch of family members, including my sister JoAnn, her hubby (Grant) & son (Jake), and me.

If you are checking out my photostream you'll also see some non-family pictures from these old rolls of film like this view in the Faroes.

Regarding the photos themselves.   They are only minimally edited/retouched.  Some aren't really even scanned all that well, as I'm still learning how to do it properly, so I don't have my system down yet.  If there is a photo you want a high quality print of, let me know and I will work a little harder to get you a clean copy of that image.

Oh my god, we look so young!
PLEASE don't put that on facebook - I was traumatised enough when someone put pictures from the 2nd year French fieldtrip and athletics pictures on there!

Other than that, loving the old pics!

ooh I have photos from that trip, but we were on our "break" then, so I don't know if you're in them. I may just have to scan the negatives to find out! ha!

Ok I had to check the Facebook photos out. I saw one athletics one, but nothing else. Have you managed to hide them away? Were you not actually tagged in them??

oh, i regret that so much. and i have absolutely no idea what we fell out over...

i think that actually i was only in one of the france pics, but they all made me cringe anyway. you would have to befriend Catherin Hussain to see them I guess.

i'm currently try to word a reply to a guy turning down a dinner date on facebook - so awkward!
