Now that we've been outside the fort three times and seen the inside once, I must say that the area around the fort is much more interesting to us (even if not as historically significant.) The sort of mock history inside the fort turns me off anyway. Outside the fort, is like Penang's Central Park. At dusk it's like a summer barbecue in the city and it's bustling with life.
Tourists roam. (a very stylish tourist, no?)
Families gather and check out the view (whether the view be out at the horizon or down at the crabs climbing this wall.)
People buy food from the street vendors.
Children play in the playground.
People play badminton and fly kites.

One interesting thing about it culturally: it's almost exclusively populated by Malay people. I wonder why we aren't seeing many Chinese or Indian locals here.
