He saw the parrot from across the way and just started walking towards it while pointing and saying, "duck!"
When we were at the pool, he shouted, "duck! Duck!" at all the crows.
It amazes me that he gets what duck means. That ducks and other birds are the same, and that symbols for bird (goofy costumes and rubber ducks) are also the same in some way. How did he learn all this? I've really only talked about ducks in reference to his rubber duckies, I am not sure I've talked about real ducks at all. We're also very excited that he's finally (after a very sleep-deprived ten months) sleeping through the night. I cut him off nighttime nursing two weeks ago. He cried buckets the first night, the second night he woke up a lot, whimpered a little, but settled himself to sleep, it's been a snooze fest since day three. Now, don't you worry, we weren't totally heartless on those first couple of nights. Dr. Sears says that allowing babies to cry with you comforting them is totally different than the Ferber cry-it-out method which is generally thought of as cruel by most of the philosophies we follow. It was sad that first night, and we got little sleep, but we snuggled and cuddled him and he still sleeps with us, so I believe it was the gentlest option available.
Ok, so that was off topic, but anyway... The day was so great that I'm invigorated and inspired to make more of an effort to enjoy my stay here. After all, if we're only here for 11 months, they'll pass by before we know it and I don't want to waste any more time being grumpy about anything.
