Regin is:
- 21lbs
- a small boy (10-20% on growth charts)
- a walking pro. He's been solely walking for weeks, and he hates to be held back.
- an AMAZING climber. I have some photos of some of his feats. I'll have to post them later.
- obsessed with shoes. We can't keep him away from them. As soon as he sees them, he's compelled to go to them, hold them, carry them, chew them, and hide them in odd places. We kind of wonder if this will develop into some kind of fetish.
- currently into the following foods: potatos, bread, cheese, apples, citrus, melon, papaya, some whole grain 'o' cereal I found, meatballs.
- described as: very stable, lovely, beautiful, handsome, friendly (this one comes up a lot), shy, funny.
- fond of pointing at objects and pictures.
- very into putting things into drawers and boxes, and also into taking things out. We lose remotes, shoes, and all kinds of objects all the time, and now we're also finding things such as coasters, balls, and bits of uneaten food in boxes that we haven't fully unpacked yet.
- able to identify: water/agua (wawa), Mamma, balls (baba -- he switched from 'baw', I think he's working on 'bola'), bottles (also baba), shoes (shsss), apples (appmm), food (hand sign food/eat), the appropriate times to say "hi" and "bye" -- unless he's asked to, then he waits until the person is through the door and can no longer see/hear him. He is also able to identify toys. Whenever we go somewhere that has a collection of toys, he immediately gravitates towards them and is absorbed in play with them for quite some time.
- also able to say: boy, duck, book, hot, uuu-ah (hola), vaca (pronounced "baca" - cow), maaaayyyyy (as in "Oh maaaan!), nigh-nigh (Night-night), ta ta (thank you), and he hums "uh-oh" when something drops, but doesn't actually say it yet.
- giving his Mamma and Papi frequent hugs and kisses -- the kisses are both offered and by request (in English and Spanish).
- accustomed to strangers showering him with attention and affection. We have several times had to stop so people can pose with him (and sometimes us too) for photos, like he's a celebrity. And they often hold him without asking, sometimes even walking away. I have a couple of times caught him looking at people, expecting them to react to something he's doing, but then I do too now. I am always shocked by the Westerners here that don't pay attention to him at all! How dare they!
- most happy/insistent on playing with: drawers (toy drawers, kitchen drawers, my underwear drawer), remotes, phones, my iPod, plastic water bottles, citrus fruit, sockets/plugs, keyboards, vacuum cleaner hoses, paper (to rip), kitchen utensils, shoes, shoes, shoes, and right now, a big rainbow-colored ball that we gave him for his birthday.
- able to hum a couple of songs, but you can't actually make out any notes yet. They're more rhythmic hums, to the notes of familiar songs, especially "Twinkle, twinkle, little star."
- often seen walking around the apartment with a cell phone (or similarly sized/shaped object) held behind his head as he "talks on the phone." I'm assuming he's imitating what he's seen us do. If so, we must yell on the phone, because sometimes his phone babble gets "heated."
- often astonishing me with his smarts and problem-solving abilities. How old will he be before I cease to be amazed by things like him figuring out how to step under, then over two consecutive computer cables, or how to open our make-shift baby gates.
- a music lover and still dances every time he hears music.
- enjoying his time with other children, though he does tend to be a little of a loner.
- crazy about going down slides. Before we have even let go, he flings himself down them and giggles.
- into being frightened, surprised, and chased.
- so resilient, and often doesn't cry when he falls (unless it's a bad one, or he's sleepy)
- under the impression that he actually, physically opens the elevator door when it stops.
- a button pusher. If it's got buttons or switches, he'll push them.
- able to sign: milk, eat/food/hungry, all done, hi/bye, change (as in diaper change), more. Signs I've seen him do once or twice: apple, dad, cat, water, fish.
- able to sign phrases, such as "more milk" or "more food"
- no longer signing or going potty. All that EC stuff we've done with him all went down the drain with a month+ of disposable diapers. Why bother peeing elsewhere when they feel dry all the time?
- finally sleeping through the night after we cut him off nighttime nursing earlier this week!
- crying right now, saying "Mamma" and signing "change" and "milk". It's time for a nap and he knows the prep that needs to take place!
