We're Out of Here (Almost)!

Movers came on Friday to ship our stuff to Malaysia, but guess what? 1100lbs is a lot less stuff than you might think. So we had UH LOT more to pack away than we expected. A big group of friends turned up on Saturday to try and help us get it done. We (I) stayed up all night trying to pack our luggage and our house away. No luck. Barely got the luggage done in time. The house is still a wreck. I hate to leave work for people, but to those who offered, the work is still there. :(

Off to L.A.!
Not quite.

We got to DIA, met my friend Monica and her hubby Eduardo for a quick breakfast, got to security and found that the whole airport had temporarily been shut down due to some kind of security breach. Uh-oh! The line looked hours long, our flight was in an hour and 15, and nothing was moving! But we thankfully made it to the gate in time to find out our flight was delayed anyway!

Off to L.A.!

Flight #1 of many.
Tired, tired, tired, but Regin is fussy and sometimes screaming. Nothing will calm/soothe him. Finally about 30 minutes before landing he falls into a coma-like sleep and nothing will wake him, not me getting excited about seeing some L.A. sights from the plane, not landing, not deboarding, not me running back to the plane to look for my sunglasses, not totally getting lost in LAX, not riding a shuttle to a different terminal, not going to check in at the Singapore Airlines desk, and certainly not George discovering that he's lost my passport somewhere between security in Denver and here! We waited for a long time for United to answer Singapore Airlines about the passport, we went and ate a long lunch, went back to Singapore Airlines, then took the shuttle back to United. Still he slept. He didn't finally wake up again until sometime after I had my passport back in my hands (not George's). By now he was totally refreshed, and we couldn't keep our eyes open for more than a few seconds at a time. Meanwhile George is leaving his jacket and credit card at the restaurant because he's so tired. Maybe I should hold onto everything for now!

Off to Tokyo!
Not quite.

No flights available till afternoon the next day. Off to a hotel. And if Regin will let us, off to sleep. We also had to go to a superkmarket (after several taxi rides) to replenish my foods. Being hypoglycemic, I have to eat every two hours, and in general processed (and airline) foods don't work, so all of yesterday's fresh travel food had to be thrown out and new food purchased.

Off to Tokyo!
We hope.

Who knows if we will meet yet more obstacles today. If we believed in the Universe sending us signs, I'd say that Friday-Sunday was full of plenty to keep us away from the Far East for a while. The only thing that could have kept us though is the wonderful, wonderful people in our lives in Colorado. We will miss you all terribly and are so very grateful for all the help and love you've given us.

PS in case you're interested, here is a list of things we still have left to do in Denver:
-Sell my car. (It's still sitting in front of our house).
-Finish packing up the house.
-Clean out kitty litter.
-Finish our laundry.
-Clean out fridge and clean the remaining dishes.
-Figure out how to transport the cats to Malaysia, and get that going. (They are in boarding till then).
-Figure out what to do with our snake. (It's not easy to find anyone who will legally ship her to my sister -- the only person who wants her. She's with our next door neighbors in the meantime.)
-Clean the house in preparation for renters.
-Close my bank accounts and open new ones (I'm mad at my bank.)
-Etc., etc., etc.......................

I know I'm gonna sound like a total weirdo, and I know we went for weeks, sometimes even months without seeing each other... but I miss you! Truly.

I wish you all the best and hope that things become easier once you make it to Tokyo and finally Malaysia. Please take lots of pics and keep us posted on your exciting and apparently off to a difficult start journey to a new life! HUGS!
