Tokyo - Part 4

Tokyo, Day 3 (Continued)
Asakusa
We wanted to see something really "Japanese looking" and our book said that the Asakusa region was like the heart and the old part of the city. Nuff said, off we went!

George and I get a kick out of when countries that seem so exotic to us need to use Miami (its name or images) to make their businesses seem cooler. In the Faroes, the foodcourt at the mall has images from Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, Penang has a Miami Beach, and we saw this Miami Garden restaurant in Asakusa:
A lot of the restaurants here have plastic versions of their foods displayed outdoors so people know what's available before they come in.

On the way to Senso-ji temple, we came across this big market, which, judging by the kinds of things they sold there, was clearly meant for tourists. It was all lit up and pretty and decorated with branches of silk cherry blossoms. I bought a kimono for me and some chopsticks with monkeys on them for Regin.
A couple of Buddhas.

Regin has the urge to touch everything, everywhere he goes.

Senso-ji was really beautiful. Finally, some "real Japanese architecture." Ha!
This is the kind of thing I think most of us have in mind when we think of Japan, including a pagoda.

"Hello from Tokyo -- Wish you were here!"

There were all sorts of things going on. People would walk up and shake some canisters. People were taking these little strips of paper and tying them on these wires.
Then they'd walk up and fan some of the smoke from the embers in this cauldrony thing onto themselves before walking up the steps to the temple in the background.
Sitting on the steps...

Back at the hotel
We were still looking for somewhere to get our sushi on. We tried this restaurant, but it was P-R-I-C-E-Y. Check out the view from the 47th floor!
Finally we found an actual sushi restaurant! And we ate there!
And it was good.

More soon...
