Happy Anniversary to Us!

Nine and a bit years ago, I met my match in a salsa class. We took it slowly; friends at first, teaching together next. We went on a few dates but it took us nine months to decide we wanted to be a couple. Who knew back then that, later on, something else would take us nine months?

We weren't perfect right off the bat. But we laughed a lot together and people laughed at how we already bickered like an old married couple. That's one of the things we had in common for sure! Our love of "debate."

As every couple must, we learned how to complement each other, not annoy each other too much, and to meet each others needs. This an unending process of learning.

Along the way there have been expressions of compassion, understanding, and support, and I never cease to be touched by each and every one.

I knew something was really right when I began wanting to better myself and realized that I was in a situation that facilitated my growth.
Two years ago today, at about this time of day, we made a commitment to each other. We looked into our common future and saw ourselves, with absolute companionship, love, support, and encouragement.

George is forever my partner as we tango, salsa, or boogie through life and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be with someone with whom I almost always feel I am dancing along to the same rhythm.

This new year in our marriage has made our twosome a threesome. And now, even as we sometimes struggle to find our way together as we devote ourselves to another common love, I find myself always secure that George will always be there to love me, support me, and encourage me to be the best me I can be.

I may be a little caught up in the new love of my life (who knew you could have more than one?), but I haven't forgotten the other man that stands beside me. Thank you, George. I love you. You always give me the little leg up I need to achieve the successes of my life.
